How to Spend More Time Doing What You Love and Less Time Doing What You Hate in Business

Let’s be honest.

One of the biggest lies we tell ourselves as business owners is:

“I have to do everything.”

No, you don’t.

In fact, one of the fastest ways to burn yourself out is trying to do every single task yourself.

Because here’s the reality.

The things you would happily do for free…

The things you would choose to do for fun…

The things you genuinely enjoy…

Those are usually the things your business should be built around.

That’s where the magic happens.

That’s where a business stops feeling like a job.

And starts becoming a vocation.

A calling.

Something that gives you meaning.

The challenge is that meaning changes.

What mattered to you five years ago may not matter to you today.

What excited you at 25 may not excite you at 45.

What fulfilled you before children may be completely different after children.

Life changes.

You change.

Your priorities evolve.

And that’s perfectly normal.

Which is why I regularly ask myself:

πŸ‘‰ What is my purpose right now?

πŸ‘‰ What gives me meaning?

πŸ‘‰ What would I do if money didn’t exist?

πŸ‘‰ What would I do if I already had all the money in the world?

πŸ‘‰ How can I bring more of that into my life and business?

Because if we’re going to spend thousands of hours building something, it should probably be something we actually enjoy.

Now before we all float off into purpose-land…

Let’s talk reality.

Because even when you’re doing work you love, there will still be parts of the business that drive you absolutely nuts.

For some people it’s:

πŸ’œ Accounting

πŸ’œ Marketing

πŸ’œ Technology

πŸ’œ Networking

πŸ’œ Product creation

πŸ’œ Sales

πŸ’œ Admin

πŸ’œ Speaking on camera

There will always be something.

There are always a few boulders we have to push uphill whether we like it or not.

Which is why I use a very simple framework whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed.

E.A.D.

πŸ’œ Eliminate

πŸ’œ Automate

πŸ’œ Delegate

Every single task on my to-do list gets put through those three filters.

Step 1: Eliminate

The first question I ask is:

“Does this task actually help me achieve my goals?”

And I mean really help.

Not “it might be nice one day.”

Not “I should probably do this.”

Not “everyone else is doing it.”

Does it directly contribute to the outcome I’m trying to create?

Because if it doesn’t…

Delete it.

Seriously.

So many business owners are drowning in tasks that don’t matter.

Random projects.

Random ideas.

Random distractions.

Things they’ve convinced themselves are important.

But when you look closely, they’re not helping move the business forward at all.

Before you do anything else, get rid of the stuff that doesn’t matter.

Step 2: Automate

Once you’ve identified the tasks that genuinely need to happen, ask:

“Can technology do this for me?”

Because we are living in the greatest era of automation in human history.

AI can now help with:

πŸ’œ Content creation

πŸ’œ Customer service

πŸ’œ Marketing

πŸ’œ Research

πŸ’œ Reporting

πŸ’œ Scheduling

πŸ’œ Data analysis

πŸ’œ Lead generation

And that’s just scratching the surface.

If a machine can do it accurately and consistently, why are you spending your life doing it manually?

Step 3: Delegate

And if it can’t be eliminated…

And it can’t be automated…

Then ask:

“Does this actually need to be done by me?”

Because that’s a very different question.

Many business owners assume they’re the only person capable of doing something.

But often that’s simply not true.

Could someone else do it 80% as well as you?

Fantastic.

Give it to them.

Because spending one hour reviewing someone else’s work is often far more valuable than spending five hours doing it yourself.

The goal isn’t perfection.

The goal is freedom.

What Should Stay On Your Plate?

Only the things that genuinely require you.

Your expertise.

Your experience.

Your unique perspective.

Your leadership.

Your voice.

For me, that’s things like:

πŸ’œ Teaching

πŸ’œ Coaching

πŸ’œ Creating educational content

πŸ’œ Strategic decisions

πŸ’œ Speaking

πŸ’œ Face-to-camera content

Those are the things only I can do.

Everything else gets questioned.

Because the goal isn’t to become a better juggler.

The goal is to build a business that allows you to spend more time doing what you love.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed right now, take a look at your to-do list and ask yourself:

πŸ‘‰ What can I eliminate?

πŸ‘‰ What can I automate?

πŸ‘‰ What can I delegate?

πŸ‘‰ What actually needs me?

Because the businesses that create the most freedom aren’t built by people who do everything.

They’re built by people who focus on the things only they can do.
