Watch: How to Edit Your Videos Using AI (10:24)

Quick answer: To edit your videos using AI: for short videos (under about 3 minutes), upload them straight into ChatGPT, Claude or GrokBot and ask it to cut filler words and gaps and add captions. For long videos like workshops, webinars and courses, connect your AI to a video editing tool such as Descript, record raw (I use Zoom), then give your AI one prompt telling it to import the recording, remove mistakes and filler words, add captions, titles and a call to action, and blur anything confidential. Check the edit before it goes public.

TL;DR

  • AI can now edit your videos for you, including long training videos, workshops, webinars and courses.
  • Short videos: upload them to ChatGPT, Claude or GrokBot and ask for the edit.
  • Long videos: connect a video editing tool like Descript. It handles long files and uses fewer AI credits.
  • Create a Video Editor agent, connect your tools once, and let your AI walk you through each login.
  • Record raw. Then one voice prompt does the whole edit, captions, titles, blurring and handover.
  • Every prompt I use in the video is below, ready to copy and paste.

Why you should be editing your videos (and why it used to be so hard)

You know you want your videos edited, right? You want to cut out the bits where you said um and ah. You want to cut out the word gaps. You want to add captions.

You might want to blur things out if you shared any private information on screen. And if you’ve been screen sharing, you probably want little pop-ups, text or arrows to point out the important parts.

This is so important when you’re making educational content of any kind, especially if it’s paid content for a course, or if you’re using YouTube to win more business.

In the past, we had to learn video editing software and pay a fortune for extra tools. It took weeks, months, and for some of us even years to learn them. Or we paid somebody else a fortune to do it for us.

Now you can get AI to do it. And this works whether you’re using ChatGPT, Claude or GrokBot. I’m using GrokBot for this, and it really comes down to having some good connectors in place.

What AI can do when it edits your video

  • Cut filler words like um, ah and false starts.
  • Cut word gaps and long pauses so the video flows.
  • Remove mistakes, retakes and detours.
  • Add captions, spelled properly with your brand and product names.
  • Add a title at the start and a call to action at the end.
  • Add pop-ups, text and arrows to point out the important parts of a screen share.
  • Blur confidential information, such as financial figures, names and private company details.
  • Use your B-roll photos and clips from a folder you’ve approved.
  • Hand the finished video on to YouTube, your blog, your emails, your socials and your ads.

Step 1: Work out if your video is short or long

How to edit videos using AI: short videos under 3 minutes can be edited natively in ChatGPT, Claude or GrokBot, while long videos need a connected editing tool like Descript
Your videoHow to edit it with AI
Short (under about 3 minutes), such as social media clipsUpload it straight into ChatGPT, Claude or GrokBot and ask it to edit. They handle short videos really well now.
Long (30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, or a 3 to 4 hour half-day workshop)Connect your AI to a video editing tool such as Descript and let your AI do the editing inside that tool.

Right now, AI tools can’t really handle massive video files on their own. For someone like me who creates 30 minute, 60 minute, 90 minute and half-day training, I needed a better system. That’s what the rest of this guide shows you.

Step 2: Edit short videos straight inside your AI

If you’re making short videos, like social media content under about three minutes, your ChatGPT, Claude or GrokBot can edit those natively, and really well.

Upload the video into the chat and tell it what you want. Use the short video prompt in the prompts section below. Add any other instructions you want for that particular video.

Step 3: Give your AI a B-roll folder

B-roll is the extra footage that plays over your main video: photos of you, clips of you typing on your laptop, walking around on stage, whatever it is.

Put all the B-roll photos and videos you’re happy for your AI to use into one Google Drive folder, and give your AI access to it. I have a folder on my Google Drive called B-roll videos and photos of Sarah. All you have to do is give your AI the share link and tell it what it’s for (the prompt is below).

That’s a really easy way to give your AI good content to work with, and it means you never have to hunt for footage again.

Step 4: Connect a video editing tool for long videos

For long videos, I use a video editing tool called Descript. I’ve had it for years and it’s a very small monthly fee, even on the current plans. You could also use CapCut or another editing tool you already have.

Why a connected tool uses fewer AI credits

Here’s the clever part. When your AI edits a video natively, it does all the heavy processing itself, and that uses up a lot of credits. When it uses a connected editing tool, the tool does the processing under its own subscription.

So your AI still uses some credits, but it uses far fewer. A cheaper editing tool that still has the full set of features is a great investment.

Step 5: Create a Video Editor agent and connect your tools

Inside my GrokBot, I have an agent called Video Editor. You can do the same thing in Claude or ChatGPT.

When I set it up, I simply asked it to create a video editor and gave it access to my video editing tools. As well as Descript, I also have a HeyGen account and a Higgsfield account, and you could connect CapCut or any other video tool you use.

Your AI will ask you to log in to each tool so it has access, and it will walk you through how to connect each one. It will literally say “here’s the button to log in, please click and log in”, or “this one needs an API key, here’s how to get it”.

If you don’t know where to find something, tell it. Take a screenshot and ask “what button do I press now?” and it will tell you. You don’t have to learn how to use software any more. Ask AI what to click next.

If you’d like to see how I’ve built a whole team of AI agents like this, read how to turn AI into a real business team.

Step 6: Record your video raw

I still record all of my training videos in Zoom, because Zoom is connected to all of my other things. I record raw. I don’t stop and start. I just go for it: share my screen, teach what I want to teach, leave in all of the mistakes and let it roll.

When I’m done, I press stop recording. That’s my job finished.

Tip: Stop worrying about getting it perfect on camera. Your AI will cut the mistakes, the ums and the long pauses. Just teach.

Step 7: Give your AI one prompt to do the whole edit

My AI video editing workflow: record raw in Zoom, give one voice prompt, AI imports it to Descript, edits it, blurs private information and hands it on to YouTube, blog, email, socials and ads

Now all I do is go into my Video Editor agent in GrokBot and tell it what I’ve recorded and what I want. In the video you can see me ask it to:

  1. Monitor Zoom and check when the recording has finished loading.
  2. Use the Zoom import in Descript to pull the recording straight in.
  3. Professionally edit it: remove mistakes, word gaps and filler words.
  4. Add captions.
  5. Add the title on screen for the first eight seconds.
  6. Blur every number, piece of financial information and anything that could be private company information.
  7. Add a call to action on screen for the last eight seconds, with my link.
  8. Send it to my YouTube Manager agent to upload with a full description.
  9. Pass on jobs to my other agents: social media posts, an email campaign and a blog post that embeds the video.

My full prompt is in the copy-and-paste section below. Swap in your own details.

By the way, I’m a big prompter, which is why I voice type. I use a tool called Wispr Flow so I can talk instead of type. And my other agents already know how to do their jobs. I just verbally repeat the tasks I need.

Step 8: Check the edit before anything goes public

In the video I show you inside my Descript account, where there’s a full tutorial video my AI created for me. It pulled the recording in from Zoom, did all of the editing, all of the screen blurring and all of the captions, and added little pop-ups. It did take a while, probably about twenty minutes. But if a human being was doing that, it probably would have taken longer.

You’re still the quality control. Before you approve the edit:

  • Scrub through every part where you screen shared and check nothing private is showing.
  • Check the captions spell your name, your business and your product names correctly.
  • Check the title and the call to action link are right.
  • Watch the start and the end, and spot check the middle.
  • Ask your AI for a list of everything it cut and everything it blurred, with timestamps.

Step 9: Let your AI hand the video on

This is where it gets really exciting. Once the video is edited, my Video Editor passes it on. My YouTube Manager uploads it with the description. My Marketing Manager creates social media posts, an email campaign and a blog post (like this one). And once the opt-in funnel, fulfilment workflow and tracking pixels are confirmed, it can even create the Facebook ads.

I just get to make videos now. All of the other admin that comes from me doing my work gets done for me.

Want to turn your videos into even more? Read how to turn a webinar or video into a lead magnet with AI and how to build an AI content creation workflow. If you make courses, see how my AI edited my Zoom workshop and uploaded it to my course portal.

Copy-and-paste prompts from the video

Here are the prompts I use in the video, tidied up so you can copy them. Swap anything in [square brackets] for your own details. They work in ChatGPT, Claude or GrokBot.

Prompt to copy: edit a short video

Please edit this video for me. Add captions, cut out any word gaps, cut out any filler words like um and ah, and remove any mistakes or false starts. [Add any other instructions for this video, such as a title at the start or a call to action at the end.] Send me the finished video to check before I post it anywhere.

Prompt to copy: give your AI a B-roll folder

Here is the share link to my B-roll folder: [Google Drive link]. If you ever make or edit videos for me, please draw B-roll from this folder. Everything in here is safe to use. Don't use any other photos or videos of me unless I give them to you.

Prompt to copy: create your Video Editor agent and connect your tools

Please create a Video Editor agent for me. I want it to access my video editing tools: [Descript, CapCut, HeyGen, Higgsfield, or whichever tools you use], plus my [Zoom] account where I record my videos. Walk me through connecting each one, step by step. Tell me exactly which button to click, and if a tool needs an API key, tell me where to find it. I'm not technical, so keep it simple.

Prompt to copy: edit a long training video (my full prompt)

I've just recorded a new training video inside [Zoom] on [topic]. It's now loading in my [Zoom] account. Please monitor it and check when it's finished loading.

When it's loaded, go into [Descript], use the [Zoom] import to pull the recording directly into [Descript], and professionally edit it for me. Remove any mistakes, word gaps and filler words. Add captions. Add the title "" on screen for the first eight seconds.

Importantly, please blur out all confidential information. In this video I did a detailed screen share that showed [financial information and numbers]. Make sure every single number, piece of financial information or anything that might be considered private company information is blurred out.

For the last eight seconds, put a call to action on screen saying "[your call to action]" and include the link [your link] on screen as well.

Once that's done, send it to my [YouTube Manager] to upload to my YouTube channel, with a full description.

[Optional: I'm also giving away a free prompt with this video. Ask my web manager to create a small two-step opt-in funnel in my branding: the opt-in on the first page and a thank you page that links to [your paid offer]. Make sure the opt-in link goes in the YouTube description.]

When all of that's done, ask my [marketing manager] to create social media posts for all of my channels, an email campaign to my list, and a full blog post that embeds the YouTube video. Send me everything to approve before it goes out.

Prompt to copy: follow up with Facebook ads

Once everything is completely set up, and the web manager has confirmed the opt-in funnel is in place, the automated fulfilment workflow is working and the tracking pixels are on every funnel step, please ask my [marketing manager] to create Facebook ads for this opt-in. Send me the ads to approve before any money is spent.

Prompt to copy: when you get stuck

[Attach a screenshot] I'm trying to connect [tool name]. What button do I press now?

Prompt to copy: save it as a reusable skill

Look at everything we just did, from finding the recording to handing the finished video on. Turn it into a reusable skill called "Video editing", with my edit standards, my privacy rules and my approval checkpoints. From now on, when I say "I've recorded a new video", run this skill.

Keep your prompts and skills organised so they work in any AI with an AI skills library.

Give your edited videos a home

I host my videos and courses on Tekmatix. Once my AI has edited a training video, it can log in to Tekmatix and put it straight into the right lesson in my course portal, then build the opt-in page, the emails and the follow-up around it.

You can connect the AI you already use (Claude, ChatGPT or GrokBot) to your Tekmatix account and tell it what you want done, with your approval before anything goes live.

You really don’t need to learn software any more

When I say you don’t need to learn how to edit, use software or learn tools, I mean it. All you have to do is talk to your AI and tell it what you want. It will ask you questions. It will ask you to add connectors. It will guide you, rather than you having to learn how to do it all yourself.

I now spend most of my time on the bits I love: teaching, speaking, putting training together and being creative. I voice type my thoughts and ideas into GrokBot, and it turns those ideas, voice notes and transcripts into content that multiplies.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI really edit my videos for me?

Yes. AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude and GrokBot can now cut filler words and word gaps, add captions, add titles and on-screen pop-ups, and blur private information. Short videos can be edited inside the AI itself. For long videos, connect your AI to a video editing tool such as Descript and it does the editing there for you.

What is the best AI to edit videos?

It works with ChatGPT, Claude or GrokBot. I use GrokBot, with a dedicated Video Editor agent connected to Zoom and Descript. The most important thing isn’t which AI you pick. It’s connecting it to the tools you already use and giving it clear instructions.

Can AI edit long videos like webinars, workshops and courses?

Not very well on its own yet. Long videos (30 minutes up to half-day workshops) are too big for most AI chats to edit natively. Connect your AI to a video editing tool like Descript, and it can import the recording, edit it, add captions and blur private information inside that tool.

Why does connecting Descript use fewer AI credits?

When your AI edits a video natively, it does all the heavy processing itself, which uses a lot of credits. When it drives a connected editing tool, the tool does the processing under its own subscription, so your AI uses fewer credits. It still uses some, just less.

Can AI blur confidential information in my screen recordings?

Yes. Tell your AI exactly what to hide, such as every number, financial figure, customer name, email address or private company information shown on screen, and it will blur or cover it. Always watch the final edit yourself before it is published.

Do I need to learn video editing software?

No. You need to be able to explain what you want. Your AI can walk you through connecting each tool, and if you get stuck, take a screenshot and ask it which button to press next.

How long does it take AI to edit a video?

It depends on the length. In the video I show a full tutorial video my AI edited for me in Descript. It did take a while, probably about twenty minutes, but if a human being was doing that, it probably would have taken longer.

Where do I get Sarah’s video editing prompts?

Eight logins. Eight bills. Zero of them talking.

Most business owners I meet are paying for a website here, an email tool there, a booking app, a course platform, a CRM they never open... and then paying someone to glue it all together with duct tape and Zapier.

  • 1Leads fall through the cracks because your forms, inbox and CRM live in different places.
  • 2Every new tool means another login, another bill and another thing to learn.

A note from the founder

I didn't set out to start a software company. I started the toolbox I needed.

Founder and CEO, Tekmatix20+ years in businessPostgraduate qualified educator

After 20+ years in business and more than 280,000 students, I kept seeing the same thing. Brilliant people with brilliant expertise, drowning in tech. Paying for ten tools, using two of them, and spending their evenings on YouTube trying to make them talk to each other.

So I put everything a business needs into one platform, then wrapped it in the thing I know best: education and support. Tekmatix runs my own websites, courses, funnels, emails and AI agents every single day. I wouldn't recommend it if I didn't use it.

Questions I get asked

Tech stack FAQs.

Still wondering if Tekmatix is right for you? Here are the straight answers.

What is Tekmatix?

Tekmatix is an all-in-one AI business platform. It brings your website, funnels, CRM, email marketing, bookings, payments, courses, memberships, communities, social media scheduling and AI agents together in one connected account, so everything talks to each other.

Do I need to be techy to use it?

No. Tekmatix was built for non-techie business owners. You get a free set-up call, 24/7 live chat, three free live training calls every weekday, a help centre, video tutorials and ready-made templates to get started.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. The Starter and Pro plans come with a 7-day free trial. The Max plan starts with a demo, so the team can make sure it's the right fit.

Can I pay in Australian dollars?

Yes. You can pay your subscription in AUD or USD. Usage charges for emails, SMS, calls and AI are pay-as-you-go and always billed in USD. See tekmatix.com/rebilling for rates.

Will my price go up as my list grows?

No. Starter and Pro include unlimited contacts, so your plan price doesn't increase as your business grows. You also get unlimited courses, students and staff users.

Can you move me off my current platforms?

Yes. Tekmatix Teksperts offer fixed-price migration and done-for-you set-up services, or can help you integrate the tools you want to keep. See tekmatix.com/services.

Can I run courses, memberships and communities in it?

Yes. Tekmatix was made especially for course creators, educators and coaches. Courses and memberships are included on every plan, and communities and certificates come with Pro and Max.

Which plan should I choose?

Starter suits most service businesses and solo experts. Pro is best if you run courses with a community, events, contracts or an affiliate program. Max is for people running more than one business or who want more AI and a monthly strategy call. Not sure? See all the Tekmatix features.
