1️⃣ Decide Whether You Actually Need It

If Claude’s native Gmail connector already provides everything you need, you may not require another connection.

Zapier MCP becomes useful when:

✨ Your app doesn’t have a native Claude connector
✨ The native connector has limited actions
✨ You want Claude to work across several platforms
✨ You need additional email functions

2️⃣ Create or Open Your Zapier Account

Log in to Zapier and check its current plan requirements, usage limits and pricing.

From the MCP area, create a new MCP server.

Give it a clear name such as:

Claude MCP Server

Then select Claude as the AI tool you want to connect and complete the login process.

3️⃣ Add Your Business Apps

Once your Claude MCP server is ready, you can begin adding the tools you use.

For example, you could add Gmail and specify which actions you want it to perform.

Review the available permissions carefully and only enable the actions appropriate for your business.

4️⃣ Give Claude Additional Capabilities

Depending on the available connector actions, an MCP connection may allow Claude to do more than the native connection, such as:

✨ Archive emails
✨ Add labels
✨ View attachments
✨ Download attachments
✨ Perform additional supported email actions

This gives your AI more ways to help manage your inbox and workflows.

5️⃣ Keep Control of Your Permissions

More functionality also means more responsibility.

Always check:

✨ What information the connector can access
✨ What actions it can perform
✨ Whether approval is required before making changes
✨ Which account you are connecting
✨ Your usage and plan limits

You do not need to connect every tool or enable every action simply because it is available.

Start with what you genuinely need.

Claude’s native connector may be perfectly sufficient for basic email tasks.

But when you need more apps, actions or flexibility, Zapier MCP can become the multi-channel plug connecting your AI to the rest of your business.
