One of the biggest frustrations business owners are facing right now isn’t creating emails.

It’s getting them delivered.

Over the past few months, providers like Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, Yahoo and Bing have significantly tightened their spam filtering and privacy protections. Even people who have opted into your list can sometimes have your emails blocked before they ever reach the inbox.

Before you panic, here are a few things to check:

• Review your email campaign statistics. Look at your delivery rate, open rate, click rate, bounces and skipped emails.
• If your delivery rate is low, check that you’re sending from your authenticated domain and that your email authentication records (SPF, DKIM and DMARC) are correctly configured.
• Remove genuinely invalid email addresses from future campaigns to protect your sender reputation.
• Don’t worry about people unsubscribing. An unsubscribe is far better than someone marking your email as spam.
• Ask questions in your emails. Every reply tells email providers that people value your messages, which helps improve your sender reputation over time.

One strategy I’ve used for years is ending almost every email with a question.

Sometimes I’ll even offer a free resource and simply ask people to reply “YES” if they’d like it.

Those replies don’t just create conversations. They also help strengthen your email deliverability.

And if an important client doesn’t receive your campaign?

Pick up the phone or send them a personal email instead.

Sometimes the highest-converting marketing isn’t another automation.

It’s a genuine one-to-one conversation.

Email marketing is still one of the highest ROI marketing channels available.
