How to Stop Feeling Defeated in Business and Start Thinking Like a CEO

Let’s be honest.

Most business owners don’t actually have a revenue problem.

They have a visibility problem.

A numbers problem.

Or sometimes…

A mindset problem.

And here’s why.

When something isn’t working in our business, it’s very easy to fall into the trap of saying:

๐Ÿ’œ “The economy is bad.”

๐Ÿ’œ “Nobody is buying.”

๐Ÿ’œ “Social media hates me.”

๐Ÿ’œ “The algorithm is broken.”

๐Ÿ’œ “People don’t want what I sell.”

๐Ÿ’œ “Nothing ever works for me.”

Sound familiar?

We’ve all been there.

Usually around 10pm on a Tuesday night when we’re questioning every life decision we’ve ever made. ๐Ÿคฃ

But one of the most powerful mindset shifts I’ve ever learned comes from psychology.

It’s called your locus of control.

In simple terms:

Do you believe life happens TO you?

Or do you believe you have the power to influence what happens next?

Because those two beliefs create completely different outcomes.

People with an external locus of control believe the remote control for their life is sitting somewhere outside themselves.

The government controls their future.

The economy controls their future.

Their competitors control their future.

The algorithm controls their future.

Someone else is holding the remote.

And when you believe that…

You stop taking action.

You stop looking for solutions.

You stop taking responsibility.

And eventually you prove yourself right.

Now compare that to people with an internal locus of control.

They’re holding the remote.

Something goes wrong and they ask:

๐Ÿ‘‰ What can I do differently?

๐Ÿ‘‰ What can I improve?

๐Ÿ‘‰ What numbers do I need to increase?

๐Ÿ‘‰ What actions haven’t I taken yet?

๐Ÿ‘‰ What is within my control?

Can you see the difference?

One mindset creates helplessness.

The other creates power.

Now let’s bring this back to business.

Because this is where numbers become your best friend.

One of the reasons so many business owners feel defeated is because they’re operating on feelings instead of facts.

They feel like nothing is working.

They feel like they’re failing.

They feel like they’re stuck.

But when they actually look at the numbers, the answer is usually obvious.

Maybe they only posted twice this month.

Maybe they sent one email.

Maybe they stopped creating content.

Maybe they haven’t been visible.

Maybe they simply didn’t get in front of enough people.

That’s not failure.

That’s data.

And data is incredibly empowering.

Because data gives you something you can actually change.

For example:

๐Ÿ‘‰ How many people visited your website this month?

๐Ÿ‘‰ How many people saw your content?

๐Ÿ‘‰ How many leads came into your business?

๐Ÿ‘‰ How many sales did you make?

๐Ÿ‘‰ What is your conversion rate?

๐Ÿ‘‰ What is your churn rate?

Because when you know those numbers, business becomes operational instead of emotional.

That’s a much easier problem to solve.

Now here’s something else I love doing.

Using AI as my executive team.

Inside my AI systems, I have reports that act like a:

๐Ÿ’œ Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)

๐Ÿ’œ Operations Manager

๐Ÿ’œ Strategy Advisor

They review my numbers.

They identify bottlenecks.

They tell me where I’m falling behind.

They help me make decisions.

Not because AI replaces leadership.

But because good information creates good decisions.

And good decisions create good outcomes.

That’s why every Monday morning I spend time looking at my numbers.

Not because it’s exciting.

But because it gives me clarity.

And clarity creates confidence.

Because when you’re operating like a CEO, you stop saying:

“I’m hopeless.”

And start saying:

“The marketing team needs more exposure.”

“The content output needs increasing.”

“The conversion rate needs improving.”

“The visibility numbers are too low.”

Can you see the difference?

One approach is emotional.

The other is operational.

One creates stress.

The other creates solutions.

“Why is this happening to me?”

And start asking:

๐Ÿ‘‰ What is within my control?

๐Ÿ‘‰ What action can I take next?

๐Ÿ‘‰ What would a CEO do with this information?

Because your power isn’t found in wishing things were different.

Your power comes from understanding the numbers and taking action on them.

And that’s where real business growth begins.
