One of the things people often find surprising about me is that before I became known as the tech, AI, automation, and business systems lady…

I actually studied human motivation and psychology as part of my teaching degree.

And honestly?

I think understanding motivation is one of the most important business skills you’ll ever develop.

Because no matter what industry you’re in…

No matter how successful you become…

No matter how many years you’ve been in business…

You are going to have moments where you feel defeated.

Moments where you question yourself.

Moments where you wonder if it’s all worth it.

That’s not a business problem.

That’s a human problem.

And if we don’t learn how to manage those moments, they can quickly spiral into hopelessness.

That’s why I regularly ask myself a few simple questions:

• What actually matters to me?
• What would I do if I had no money at all?
• What would I do if I had all the money in the world?
• What gives me purpose?
• What genuinely lights me up?

Because the answers to those questions tell us a lot about whether we’re building a business that’s aligned with who we are.

Or whether we’ve accidentally built ourselves another job that we hate.

And then there’s another question I want you to ask yourself.

Look at your to-do list.

Seriously.

Open it right now.

How many tasks make you think:

“Ugh.”

How many things on there instantly drain your energy?

How many things do you keep avoiding because you hate doing them?

Because those are the things you need to pay attention to.

Whenever possible, ask yourself:

1️⃣ Can I eliminate it?

2️⃣ Can I automate it?

3️⃣ Can I delegate it?

Because life is too short to spend all day doing the parts of business that suck the joy out of it.

Now I know what some of you are thinking.

“But Sarah, I can’t afford help.”

Neither could I.

When I first started delegating, I didn’t hire a full-time team member.

I didn’t have a huge budget.

I started with one or two hours a week.

That’s it.

One or two hours.

Enough to take a few things off my plate.

Enough to create a little breathing room.

Enough to help me focus on the parts of the business that actually generated income and brought me joy.

And here’s the crazy thing.

One of those people is still with me today.

Twelve years later.

In fact, not only is she still with me, but her entire family now works with our business.

What started as one or two hours a week grew into something neither of us could have imagined.

The lesson?

You don’t have to build everything overnight.

You don’t need a giant team.

You don’t need unlimited money.

You just need to start creating a little more space for yourself.

A little more joy.

A little more energy.

A little more focus on the things that matter most.

Because motivation isn’t something that magically appears.

Motivation grows when we’re doing meaningful work.

Motivation grows when we’re operating in our strengths.

Motivation grows when we’re building a business that supports the life we actually want to live.

So today, ask yourself:

What matters most to me?

What gives me purpose?

And what is one thing on my to-do list that I never want to do again?

That answer might change everything.
