Boundaries in Business – NEVER Break Them ‘To Keep Clients Happy’
This morning I had to write a tough email to a client I love, because boundaries were being crossed…
And when you start letting people cross your boundaries, you’ll get trampled to death.
I know, because ive been there, and its a quick way to die.
You didn’t leave employment and start your business to have 50 million needy adults acting like they’re your boss.
YOU are your boss, and sometimes you have to remind people of that if you wanna live.
You don’t have to reply to messages at 10pm.
You don’t have to discount just because they ask.
You don’t have to change your pricing because it doesn’t suit their budget.
You don’t have to squeeze them in “just this once” when you’re fully booked.
You don’t have to take responsibility for their ’emergency’, because they didn’t plan properly.
You don’t have to accept scope creep disguised as “one quick thing.”
Boundaries aren’t about being difficult…. they’re about protecting your energy, your focus, and the quality of what you deliver.
They’re about creating and enforcing rules that apply to everyone, so that you can honour equity, integrity and fairness for everyone.
You don’t ‘lose’ good clients by saying no.
You command respect from them.
The disrespectful and unreasonable ones will walk themselves out of the gate.
Lock it behind them when they do.???????? ????????????
