How to Build Websites, Web Pages and Funnels (Even If You’re “Not Techy”)

If you’ve ever stared at a blank website builder and thought, “This is complete gobbledygook”, you’re not alone.

Building websites, landing pages, and funnels is exactly like learning a new language. You would never expect yourself to listen to French for 60 minutes and then be fluent at minute 61. It takes repeated exposure, immersion and a bit of stubbornness.

Same here.

So in this how-to article, I’m going to walk you step-by-step through:

  • What web pages, landing pages, funnels and websites actually are
  • How to plan a simple, high-converting one-page website
  • How to use AI to write your copy (even if you “literally cannot write your own name”)
  • How to design and build pages using a page or funnel builder
  • How to embed opt-in forms, calendars and checkouts so your website actually makes money

You cannot break this. The house isn’t going to burn down because you changed a button color. So let’s begin.


Step 1: Learn the Language – Pages, Funnels and Websites

Before you touch a single pixel, you need to understand what you’re working with.

Every page you see on the internet is just a:

Web page = a page on the internet with its own unique URL
e.g. yourwebsite.com/services

Everything else is just naming conventions describing the purpose of the page:

  • Homepage – the front page people land on first
  • Contact page – a page with your contact information and/or form
  • Services page – a page that lists your services
  • Sales page – a web page whose main job is to sell something
  • Opt-in page – a web page whose main job is to collect email addresses
  • Landing page – simply a page you intentionally send people to “land” on

Now, what’s a funnel?

Funnel = a set of selected web pages put in a specific order

For example:

  1. Opt-in page: “Come and get my free thing”
  2. Sales page: “Now buy this thing”
  3. Thank-you page: “Congratulations, you bought your thing”

That’s it. That is a funnel.

And a website?

Website = a collection of web pages (your homepage, contact page, services page, etc.) all grouped under one domain.

Once you see it this way, the big scary “funnel” and “website” words are really just… pages and order.


Step 2: Start With a Simple One-Page Website

One of the biggest things that holds people back is thinking they need:

  • A massive 10–page website
  • A web designer
  • $25K to pay a developer
  • Fifteen rounds of meetings about colors and fonts

No.

To start making money, you only need a simple one-page website.

That one page just needs to answer four core questions:

  1. Who are you? “Hi, my name is X and I help Y kind of people get Z result.”
  2. How can I join your world?
    • A simple opt-in form for a freebie, checklist, or lead magnet
  3. What do you sell?
    • A short list of your main offers:
      • Online course / program
      • Coaching package
      • Service or consulting
      • Events, workshops, membership, etc.
  4. How can I contact you or book you?
    • A contact form, email, or a booking calendar link

That’s it.

Step one: earn cash.
Step two: make it cute.

If you wait until your website is “perfect”, you will not launch. Get a functional, one-page site up. Pretty comes later.


Step 3: Choose and Connect Your Domain

Next, your website needs a home address on the internet – your domain name.

There are two main approaches:

  1. Personal brand domain
    • e.g. yourname.com
      Great if you are a coach, expert, speaker, author or consultant. You are the product.
  2. Company / brand domain
    • e.g. yourbrand.com
      Great if you plan to scale or sell the business one day.

Many people use both:

  • yourname.com for personal brand
  • yoursoftware.com or yourbusiness.com for the company

You can purchase domains from places like:

  • Squarespace
  • GoDaddy
  • Namecheap
  • CrazyDomains

Once purchased, you’ll connect the domain to your website or funnel builder (like Tekmatix, WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, etc.). Most platforms give you:

  • Step-by-step help docs, or
  • The option to have support connect it for you

After that, any page you build can live at that domain, e.g.:

  • yourname.com
  • yourname.com/podcast
  • yourname.com/workshop

Step 4: Use AI to Write Your Website Copy

If writing is not your thing, do not sit there staring at the blinking cursor trying to be Shakespeare.

Use AI.

A good sales page (or homepage) generally needs:

  • A clear headline with a promise
  • A short description of what it is
  • The pains / problems your audience is facing
  • How you solve those problems
  • Who it’s for
  • What they get
  • Why you / your credibility
  • Call-to-action buttons

You can feed AI prompts like:

“Please rewrite my homepage. I help [type of people] to [achieve result] through [offers]. Make it focused on opt-ins and sales for [main program], and keep it clear, friendly and conversion-focused.”

Then:

  1. Ask AI to structure the copy in sections:
    • Headline
    • Subheadline
    • Pain points
    • Solution
    • About / credibility
    • What they get
    • FAQ
    • Call to action
  2. Paste the result into a Google Doc
  3. Edit it in your own voice
  4. Then use this as your “script” when building the page

Even if you literally cannot write your own name, AI can give you a high-converting starting point.


Step 5: Design the Layout Using Templates or AI

Good news: you don’t need design skills either.

You have three main options:

  1. Use built-in website / funnel templates
    • Many platforms (like Tekmatix) include pre-built website and funnel templates for:
      • Coaches
      • Speakers
      • Consultants
      • Course creators
      • Service providers
    • You just swap the text, images and colors.
  2. Use AI design tools for layout inspiration
    • Tools like Canva or Google AI Studio can mock up a homepage layout.
    • You might say: “Design a modern homepage layout for a business coach with sections for intro, lead magnet, services and testimonials.”
  3. Use Funnel AI (if your platform has it)
    • Some builders let you type in your business type, tone (friendly, conversational, professional) and main goal (leads, appointments, sales).
    • The system then generates a ready-made funnel layout you can edit.

Your aim is NOT to reinvent web design. Your aim is:

Function first.
Design second.


Step 6: Build Your Page in the Page or Funnel Builder

Once you’ve got your copy and a layout idea, you’re ready to drag and drop.

The basic elements you’ll be using are:

  • Sections – big horizontal bands across your page
  • Columns – splitting sections into 2–4 vertical chunks
  • Headings / text – your actual words
  • Images / videos – visuals
  • Buttons – calls-to-action
  • Forms – email capture
  • Custom code blocks (for embedding calendars, etc.)

You’ll typically:

  1. Start with a hero section (top of the page)
    • Big headline = main outcome promise
    • Short supporting text
    • A button (e.g. “Join the email list” or “Book a call” or “Get the free guide”)
  2. Add a section for:
    • “Who it’s for”
    • “What you get”
    • “How it works”
    • Testimonials
    • About you / your story
    • FAQs
  3. Add calls-to-action throughout:
    • Buttons that say things like:
      • Join the community
      • Get instant access
      • Book your session

Most builders are the same in principle:

  • You click a plus sign to add a section
  • You choose 1/2/3/4 columns
  • You drag headings, text, images, videos, and buttons into the columns
  • You tweak fonts, colors and spacing on the right-hand side

Remember: you can always move, clone or delete sections later. Play with it.


Step 7: Add Opt-In Forms So You Can Build Your Email List

Your website is not an online brochure.

Its job is to:

Get contact details and make money.

So you’ll want at least one opt-in form linked to your email list.

Basic process:

  1. Create a form inside your platform:
    • Fields: First name, Email (keep it simple)
    • Button text: “Join the newsletter”, “Get the free guide”, “Join the community”
  2. Either:
    • Embed the form directly onto your page (drag a “form” element and select your form), or
    • Link a button so that when clicked, it takes people to that form page
  3. Later, you can connect that form to an automation:
    • Send welcome email
    • Deliver lead magnet
    • Tag subscribers
    • Add them to a nurture sequence

But for now: make sure there is at least ONE place where visitors can join your email list.


Step 8: Embed Calendars and Checkouts So You Can Get Booked & Paid

Now we add the money bits.

Embedding a Booking Calendar

If you offer calls, sessions or consults, you can:

  1. Create a calendar or appointment type in your platform
  2. Grab the embed code for that calendar
  3. Drag a “custom code” or “HTML” block onto your page
  4. Paste the embed code
  5. Save and preview

Now people can see your availability and book directly from your website.

Adding a Checkout

To sell something (like a consultation, workshop, or digital product):

  1. Create a product in your payments area:
    • Name
    • Description
    • Price
    • Currency
  2. On your page, drag a checkout element
  3. Edit it to:
    • Choose which product is connected
    • Customize the headline (“Secure your spot”, “Complete your purchase”)
    • Hide fields you don’t need (like shipping if it’s a digital product)
  4. Save and preview the page
  5. Test the checkout flow yourself

Once this is done, your page can:

  • Capture leads
  • Book appointments
  • Take payments

Which is exactly what we want.


Step 9: Preview, Publish and Let Version 1 Exist

This is where a lot of people stop and self-sabotage.

They zoom in, obsess over every pixel, and never publish.

You need to hear this:

If you are not embarrassed by your first version, you launched too late.

Your job now is to:

  1. Hit Preview
  2. Click around:
    • Do buttons go where they should?
    • Does the form submit?
    • Does the checkout work?
  3. Fix anything obviously broken
  4. Hit Publish

Once it’s live:

  • Share the link with your audience
  • Put it in your social media bios
  • Start sending traffic to it

You can absolutely tweak, refine and redesign later.

But first, you must have a live, functional version 1.


Final Encouragement

Right now it might seem like a lot. That’s okay.

Remember:

  • It’s supposed to feel unfamiliar at first.
  • This is just a new language.
  • The more you play with it, the more natural it becomes.

You would never scream “I suck at French!” after one hour of listening to it. So don’t scream “I suck at tech!” after one workshop or one attempt.

Keep your butt in the chair, keep playing with your builder, and let version 1 of your website go out into the world.

From there, it can start doing what it’s meant to do:

👉 Help people find you,
👉 Join your world,
👉 Book you, and
👉 Pay you.
