Turn Your Expertise Into Income: Create Short, Sharp, Sellable Online Programs - sarahcordiner.com

I know I only look 15, but I’ve been in the education game for over 20 years, and today, we’re diving into the real-deal, no-fluff, tell-it-like-it-is guide to building online courses, coaching programs, or memberships that don’t just sit there collecting dust—they SELL.

So let’s get into the truth, the laughs, the mindset shifts, and the practical steps for actually making this work for you.

1. Big, Long, Boring Courses Are Out. Short, Sharp Wins Are In.

✉️ I don’t know about you guys, but the thought of getting through a 50-hour course fills me with dread. Honestly, I don’t even have time for a lunch break these days, let alone a Netflix-season-length course. If the thought of creating a 20-module mega-course is making you break out in hives, you’re not alone.

Today’s learners want transformation in bite-sized chunks. And as course creators, we’ve got to meet them where they’re at—busy, overloaded, attention-split humans.

2. The Post-COVID Shift: Community & Connection Are Everything

Since COVID, we’ve seen a massive shift in education consumer behaviour. People are craving connection. Group-based. Community-based. Membership-based.

We don’t want to go it alone. We want to feel like we’re not the only psychopath doing the thing, right?

Creating a program that invites people into a shared journey—that’s the magic. And yes, it still works brilliantly for introverts, neuro-spicies, and the gloriously anti-social among us. You don’t need to give your entire life to it. Which brings me to…

3. Memberships: The Most Flexible, Creative Business Model for Modern Edupreneurs

There is absolutely no law, no rule, no structure that anyone has to follow when it comes to a membership.

Imagine it like a shelf. Or a bucket. Or a digital library. You can keep adding to it over time. Bam! You have a membership. You don’t have to build the whole castle before inviting people in. Just get your first room ready, and add the rest over time.

And all you need to do? Prepare that workshop or training in time for each month’s delivery. Easy.

4. Attention Is the New Currency

Right now, people are preferring short, sharp, intense bursts of getting something DONE.

Long-term commitments feel overwhelming. Most people are like, “You want me to sign up for what… a 12-month thing? Yikes.”

Your job is to offer a fast win, build trust, and then extend the invitation for longer involvement.

5. Hate People? Prefer Pre-Recording? You’re Not Alone

If the reason you want to create an online course is because you’re absolutely sick of people—I see you. And yes, we’ve all been there.

Creating a self-paced course means you can immortalise your knowledge into video, automate the delivery with platforms like Tekmatix, and have your systems work while you enjoy your peace, quiet, and Netflix marathons. Or dog cuddles. Or both.

6. Neuro-Spicy? Don’t Box Yourself In.

If you’re someone who actually thrives on creativity and variety, then memberships and modular coaching programs are perfect. Why?

Because you don’t want to be packed into one bucket. You want a big bucket. One you can pour everything into—your ideas, passions, frameworks, rants, genius moments, and imperfections.

Guess what? That freedom is not only allowed. It’s desirable. And it’s sellable.

7. Production Quality is Overrated

People aren’t coming to stress about how many pixels your retina display is.

They’re coming to get answers. They want transformation. They want your brain. They want your knowledge.

Your job is to show up. No one is buying your lighting rig. They’re buying your solution. So just start.

8. Pick Joy First

Want to know the golden rule for succeeding in this business?

Pick joy first.

Anything that sells, anything that makes money, anything that becomes successful is only going to work if you love it enough to stick at it for YEARS.

Chuck a couple of social media posts up? Send a cheeky email and hope SEO does the heavy lifting?

You’re not going to make any sales.

9. Course Creation Is a Vocation

This business? It’s not a quick cash grab.

It’s a vocation where you get to live your passion every single day. Trust me on this. The rewards come. But only after consistency.

So stop waiting for perfect. Stop comparing your beginning to someone else’s 10-year highlight reel. Start with your Version 1.

10. Version 1 Is Enough. Just Get It Out There.

Year one? Is version one.

You can change it. You WILL change it. But you can’t improve something that doesn’t exist.

So film it. Upload it. Publish it. Launch it. And tweak as you go.

11. Real Talk: Your Audience Doesn’t Know What You Know

When you turn on that camera—whether it’s your phone or a dodgy old webcam—remember: you’re talking to human beings who don’t know what you know yet.

They’re not judging you for fumbling a word. They’re not noticing the cat walking across your keyboard. They just want your help.

12. Want the Full Training?
