Let’s be honest.

One of the biggest mistakes people make when building a business is creating a job they hate.

They leave employment looking for freedom.

They start a business looking for flexibility.

And somehow…

A few years later…

They’ve accidentally created a job that’s even more stressful than the one they left.

Sound familiar?

Here’s something I think about all the time.

The things you would happily do for free…

The things you do because they’re fun…

The things that give you energy…

The things that make you lose track of time…

Those are usually the things your business should be built around.

Because that’s where the shift happens.

That’s where a business stops feeling like a job.

And starts feeling like a vocation.

Can you see what happens?

You stop chasing money.

And start building around meaning.

Now before anyone panics…

I’m not saying we shouldn’t make money.

Of course we should.

I love helping people make more money.

But the businesses that last are usually built around something deeper than income.

They’re built around purpose.

Around contribution.

Around fulfilment.

Around doing work that genuinely matters to you.

The interesting thing is that purpose changes.

What mattered to you at 20 may not matter at 40.

What mattered before children may not matter after children.

What mattered before success may not matter after success.

We’re constantly evolving.

And so is our definition of meaning.

That’s why I regularly ask myself:

👉 What matters to me now?

👉 What would I do if money didn’t exist?

👉 What would I do if I already had all the money in the world?

👉 What would I spend my time doing if nobody was watching?

Because the answers tell us a lot.

Now here’s the reality.

Even if you’re doing work you absolutely love…

There will still be parts of the business you hate.

Sorry. 🤣

There is no magical business where every task is sunshine, rainbows, and unicorns.

Every business has boulders.

Every business has admin.

Every business has tasks that need to be done.

For some people it’s:

💜 Accounting

💜 Marketing

💜 Networking

💜 Technology

💜 Product creation

💜 Speaking on camera

💜 Sales conversations

There will always be something.

And this is where most business owners get stuck.

They spend too much time doing the parts they hate.

And not enough time doing the parts they love.

Which is why I use a very simple process.

Before any task lands on my plate, I ask:

💜 Can I eliminate it?

💜 Can I automate it?

💜 Can I delegate it?

Only if the answer is no to all three does it stay with me.

Because the goal isn’t to do everything.

The goal is to spend as much time as possible in your zone of genius.

The things that only you can do.

The things that bring you joy.

The things that create impact.

The things that make you feel alive.

That’s where the magic is.

That’s where the growth is.

And honestly?

That’s where the fun is.

So if you’re feeling frustrated in your business right now, don’t automatically assume you’ve chosen the wrong path.

Sometimes the problem isn’t the business.

Sometimes it’s simply that too much of your day is filled with things you were never meant to be doing.

And that’s a fixable problem.
